    Meroddi Pera Flats

Pera Flats occupies a historic building recorded in the land registry of 1891 as the property of André Madeleny, known for his pharmacy on the Grande Rue de Péra (today's İstiklal Avenue). In tribute to this heritage the building has been revived under its original name, "Maison Madeleny"; the façades, marble staircases and wrought-iron details have been faithfully preserved. The generously sized apartments — with two- and three-bedroom options — are designed above all for families and groups. With fully equipped kitchens, washing machines and high-speed Wi-Fi, you settle in as if moving into a home in Istanbul. Set on atmospheric Şahkulu Street, it is only a one-minute walk from Galata Tower; İstiklal Avenue, the metro, tram and bus lines are all close by. For those travelling in company and looking for space, this is your address in Galata.

Maison Madeleny and the Streets of the Tram Horses

The land registry of 1891 records Mr. André Madeleny — known for his pharmacy on the Grande Rue de Péra, today's İstiklal Avenue — as the owner of the property. In tribute to that heritage, we have revived the building faithfully under its original name: Maison Madeleny.

The streets around the building carry traces of Istanbul's transport history. Turkey's first horse-drawn tram line entered service in 1871 roughly 150 metres away; Tımarcı Street takes its name from the grooming and care of the tram horses, and neighbouring Otçu Street from the days when the horses grazed there. Across the street rise the historic Barnathan Apartments, whose cornices have hosted nesting doves since 1892 — two buildings that have been neighbours for more than a century at the meeting point of Galata and Pera.

In the restoration, the building's historic character was preserved with great care: the façades, marble staircases and elegant wrought-iron details are kept true to the original, with contemporary touches added for a comfortable stay. Staying at Maison Madeleny places you at the very heart of Galata's historic fabric — Galata Tower is just a one-minute walk away.

    Galata: Old Soul, New Rhythm

Galata has witnessed centuries unfold — from merchants arriving by sea to artists filling its cobbled alleys with music and color. Once the crossroads of old Constantinople’s trade routes, it drew travelers from every corner of the world, each leaving a trace in its language, architecture, and spirit. The streets still carry those echoes — the sound of laughter spilling from a café, the scent of fresh simit at dawn, the soft glimmer of the Bosphorus between historic facades.
