Galata and Karaköy evenings are among the busiest in Istanbul for live music. Here are seven options by type: what plays on which night, what kind of setting to expect and what to watch out for. The first is our own garden; the rest are general venue types in the area.
1. Live music in a garden with a Galata Tower view — Barnathan Garden
In the garden of the 1892 Barnathan Apartment, facing the tower, live music every evening except Monday at 19.30: electric violin on Tuesday, world music on Wednesday, piano on Thursday, jazz at the weekend. With dinner; no entrance fee, table reservation is free. Best for: a calm music evening with dinner; couples and small groups.

2. Fasıl at a meyhane
The classic Beyoğlu–Galata night: meze, rakı and a fasıl ensemble. Best for: a lively, sing-along evening. Note: book for weekends; it is loud.
3. A jazz club
Seated, concert-style evenings, usually with an entrance fee or minimum spend. Best for: those who put the music before the meal.
4. A DJ or acoustic set on a rooftop bar
After sunset on Karaköy's rooftop bars, a DJ or an acoustic duo. Best for: a view-and-cocktail evening. Note: mostly summer; ask about the indoor section in winter.
5. A fish restaurant on the Golden Horn and Galata Bridge
Fish restaurants with live music under the bridge and along the Karaköy shore; sea view, late hours. Best for: large groups and celebrations.
6. Café concerts and acoustic evenings
Acoustic performances on certain days in small cafés and bookshop stages. Best for: a quiet, intimate setting; a younger crowd.
7. Piano at a hotel bar
Piano hour in the lobby and rooftop bars of hotels in the area. Best for: hotel guests and a short stop after a business dinner.
